User Defined Tags Vs Company Segments

User Defined Tags Vs Company Segments

2021, Feb 15

In Endeca there are 2 possibilities to use your own list of ids.

  1. Company Segments (mentioned already in the post: Getting Contacts for Account IDs)
  2. User Defined Tags

Advantage of Company Segments is that it gets created immediately (up to 10 minutes) whereas User Defined Tag requires manual processing of the Helpdesk: gmss_biz_helpdesk_in_grp@oracle.com

Disadvantage of ‘Company Segment’: limited to 5000 ids (you can create multiple segments if needed more)

Advantage of User Defined Tag is the flexibility as it can be created for any ids, including contact level ids (‘Company Segment’ works only for Account level ids) and no limitation on number of ids.

Company Segments after creation are available in the Account Based Segmentation tab:

They get created with your name as prefix.

To create User Defined Tag you need to send a list of ids to Helpdesk: gmss_biz_helpdesk_in_grp@oracle.com. After creation are available either in the Account Based Segmentation tab or in the Contacts Segmentation tab (depending on type of ids you provided to helpdesk for tags creation) in Segments section.

ATTENTION: Only company-keys are created in both Account and Contacts segmentation tabs. But tags created using other IDs like fusion reg IDs, CXD Ids, etc. are available in contact segmentation only.

As any other selections both User Defined Tags and Company Segments can be logically connected. You can e.g. select all ids from one segment but exclude ids from another one. Or maybe (if your amount of ids was really huge and you needed to create multiple entries) you can connect your segments with OR so ids from all selected segments will be unified in one query.
